Episode 4

King’s Hill

Some of the guys whine about being thirsty. Coach tells them to, “Go ahead, go and get some water, but anybody that grabs a drink before they run their mile won’t be starting our first game.” I’m thirsty too, but I don’t have an issue with running a flat mile after all those hill runs, so I take the lead and keep it during the run, finishing first, and causing the coach to berate his players even more. He takes a special interest in one of the linemen….

Without a Ladder

I pull over on the side of the road behind another car, which is parked all cattywampus. The car’s empty, but there are obvious tracks in the form of trampled stalks of corn that cut through the field, so I follow the ethanol paved road. The trek is longer than any walk ever should be, and as I huff and puff along, I find myself wishing I’d just driven my car. I consider turning around to get it, but then I hear voices….

The Man in Black

I figure I have to be hallucinating, on the verge of death.  I crumple onto the floor, and I hear screaming all around me.  I hear Jared and others in the waiting room all crying out for someone to help me.  As I await death, or a doctor to save me, I look up at the man.  He puts a bony finger up to his pale blue lips and then places his hat back over his eyes….

She Ruined My Life

She took everything from me. I left my wife, lost my business, and now I’m in danger of losing my freedom, unless I force her to confess what she did. I’m willing to go to any extreme if she makes me. And I won’t feel sympathy, because this is all her doing. She created this monster….
